Some words I cannot stand to say out loud. Obvious "smutty" words (as my grandma would call them) like slang for body parts, etc.
Although for some reason I enjoy using the word a-hole as it sometimes pertains to strangers when I'm operating a motor vehicle.
I also do not care for moist, navel, mucous and for the longest time, belly. Up until just a few years ago I really disliked this word, although I could not tell you why. It just gave me the heebie-jeebies.
Probably because back then I didn't have a belly, per se. Just a mid-section.
Now, I have a belly. Where the remnants of 3 kids and too many Blue Moons join hands, happily.
So I kind of dig the word now. Plus, how often do you refer to your child's mid-section or stomach? It's a belly, period.
When D was potty training we read that it was most appropriate to teach your children the anatomically correct terms for their "privates". So we did. With D.
But later, I couldn't bring myself to use the Vuh-JJ word with GoGo. Because I dislike that word. It's about 17 kinds of ugly and just so hard to say out loud for me.
I don't recall EVER being told what that was by anyone in my immediate or extended family. Thank God for the 5th grade movie where you "learn" about all of that. Those types of things were not discussed in my family. You would think we were Puritans right off the big ship.
Friends called it a "lucy". Hmm. You better believe that my son and his friends think "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" is hilarious. Better than nothing so we went with that.
But GoGo has intermittently referred to her goods as a wiener or penis on multiple occasions. Like in front of my grandmother...oh I feel the blush now. I have corrected her multiple times, explaining only boys have that, etc. But the next time she and D are having a battle, I hear "he kicked me in my wiener". What to do?
I certainly don't want her going to kindergarten with this misinformation.
But oh, to say that word. I just don't know.
I mean, I still haven't accurately or honestly told my children how Agent P got out of my belly. Hmm. Clearly, I have issues. Certain words have the Heebie-Jeebie power over me.
Maybe I do have some Puritan blood running unclaimed in my veins.
The Way We Roll
All kids ride toosmallforthem ride-on toys in their driveway while clothed only from the waist down, right?
And squeal like crazed baby piggies while playing bumper cars...at 7:30am on a Saturday.
Blurred so as not to scandalize her elementary school days...
Sweaty head+bits o' food+milk drippings=HAPPY BATHY

The joys of water guns that actually work, knight sets complete with plastic swords in sheaths and tennis racquets used as weapons...

This was disheveled as well but a paint wizard turned it into this for GoGo...
Apparently Agent P is as shocked by it all as I am.

First Day Finale
We did it.
Two kids enjoyed/attended their first days of school. One mommy cried only once today. In private. Kudos to us all.
The day absolutely flew by and I still only accomplished half of my to-do list.
I did get a work out in, folded laundry and made a bundt cake. From scratch. I think the cake part counts for a lot, don't you?
GoGo was waving her hand as if it were on fire when the bus pulled up today.
D was busy talking to his buddy J and didn't even notice he was home.
Both appeared to have great days-GoGo couldn't get the words out quickly enough to describe her first day of kindergarten while D gave me about 10 to summarize his first day of 1st grade.
Agent P and I waited impatiently at the bus stop for them. We missed them.
Nono starts school 2 mornings a week after Labor Day. Where is all of the time going???
Soon enough I will be crying (in private) when I drop her off at her first day of kindergarten. Then what?
I seriously need some big-ass buttons around here...pause, rewind, and maybe fast forward.
Just in case.

There's No Place Like Home
So I took my litttle people back home to St. Louis last week-it was a lloonngg trip. But a good one. My kids love staying in a hotel which we did on the way there and back. They also love getting new toys which they did on the way there and while there and probably on the way back, if I think about it long enough. Whatever gets you through, you know?
If you are ever in need of a road trip with a guaranteed destination full 'o fun, check out the 'Lou.
The zoo, art museum, history museum, Science Center and Arch museum are all FREE. Not to mention there are a gazillion yummy restaurants filled with delights only to be had there...toasted ravioli, St. Louis style pizza, Ted Drewes frozen custard and Pork Steaks!! Yum.
Tons of fun for kids and adults alike.
My kids have a new favorite place in this world and it is the City Museum in St. Louis. Not free and not cheap but TOTALLY worth it. It is hard to describe it and pictures do not do it any kind of justice. It's an early 1900's building downtown, about 10 stories high, filled with an amazing collection of recycled materials, mosaics, slides, 3-story trees, aquariums and airplanes and school buses welded to the roof that you can climb on if you dare. Oh, and a working ferris wheel. Need I say more?
We visited the art museum to see the mummies. Very cool. And breezed through the Impressionsists, 20th Century and ancient weapons/armor on the way out.
My family thoroughly enjoyed my little people and for the most part, my trio were muy bien. Except for Gogo asking me on the drive there and back every 20 minutes "Are we almost there?" And when I had to tell her no, we still had _ hours to go...she would begin to cry.
And except for the incessant fighting between D and Gogo. Just like every other day of our lives.
And except for the "potty talk" from both of them in front of my grandmother. A wonderful woman, who for all the years she helped raise my sister and I, the most basic of kid/mommy words never came from her mouth. Words like "pee" or "butt". No, my friends. She said "potty" or AT BEST "tinkle" and "bottom" if she must.
Well imagine her surprisehorrordisgust when the Ultimate Naughty Word to Come From a 5 Year Old Girl's Mouth hit her...penis. Yep, you read that right. Which led to a quick Come-to-Jesus between me and the kids and that is for another post altogether.
Suffice it to say, my grandma gave each child a
Beyond all that, the trip was great. My kids got lots of love from the fam and I got to take lots of pictures from a moving vehicle (please don't turn me in).
I also got to sneak out 2 nights and drink beers with dear friends and laughed until I hurt. I had t-rav 3 times, pork steaks twice and Mr. Twist almost daily. Filled to the gills with joy and happiness.
Crying, Cameras and Kids
I did it. I finally took the plunge and got my D90 camera. So excited. A friend and her kids clapped for me via telephone over the news.
What I put my children and myself through to get the camera, not such a happy story.
My kids played all day with friends-I woke the baby up from her afternoon nap-loaded all 3 precious ones into the car-had to make 3 work related stops PLUS sell my old camera-hit the DQ for Blizzards-listened to Agent P scream bloody murder because she had no icecream-lost the paci-realized I had no baby wipes-listened to Gogo kick D's seat and offer him a knuckle sandwich at least 11 times-listened to D tell Gogo to "shush it" at least as many-rocked out to Sir Paul and Beck-were in the car for 1.5 hours at this point and still no D90-hit the Teeter for potty break/fresh veggies/BlueMoon/cash/gumballs-proceeded to take all 3 little people into a camera store-watched from the corner of my eye as D and Gogo had Agent P's stroller on 1 wheel as I pretended to have an adult conversation with the camera lady-took some photos with the D90-was quite pleased-tried to wrangle all kids back into the car with thunder/lightning like it was the 2nd Coming-attempted to change Agent P's diaper while talking on a cellphone-listened to everyone whine because it was 5:45 and dinner was no where near being ready-Gogo informs me she "has something bad to tell me"...she has put her chewed gumball in her ear and then took it out, only to have it become stuck in her hair-"cut it" she tells me of her beautiful white blonde locks-FINALLY pull in with everyone yelling-attempt to cook dinner with Agent P screaming as if I were lighting her feet on fire while the other 2 have a "penis kicking contest" in the living room-take pictures with my new camera of EVERYTHING in my kitchen-crack open a BlueMoon-aagghh, better now.
Should have put the money I spent on this chest towards a new lens but too late now. Plus I love it.
I had this great idea that I was going to be like the Pioneer Woman (Ree Drummond) tonight and take beautiful pictures of my dinner as I was preparing it.
That is tough to do with someone hanging on your leg as you move about the kitchen and you try to chop veggies without losing a pinkie while you saute chicken and try to open your Blue Moon. Some things are just too much, people.
So, I snapped some pics of D's lego creation he worked on today with a friend...the most expensive Lego pics I have ever taken.
Can't wait for tomorrow.
